Jæren is a traditional district in the County of Rogaland in Norway, stretching from Ryfylke in the north, to Dalane in the south. The name derives from the Old Norse word ‘jaðarr’ translating edge, and means “the edge towards the ocean”.  The landscape is mainly flat rising up in the east towards the mountains and ending in long sandy beaches in the west. The majority of the land is farmland, but the district also houses two of the biggest cities in the County; Stavanger and Sandnes
